Rumours of me selling my jeep have been greatly overstated.
Back to business though, Trans Alta to the Ice Cliffs!
It will be winter so bring extra clothes, and there will 100% be water crossings so bringing a change of socks is a good idea just in case you fck up!
Meet at A&W in Cochrane at 9/915 - 930. At the trailhead at 10/10:15.
My phone is being dumb but here's the lat/long of the A&W in Cochrane: 51.1926843, -114.4892214
Soooo anyone wanna buy a jeep??
-
Probably in.
-
I think I’ll join. And I’d sell my fleet in a heartbeat. Only to buy new versions 😂
-
I’ll probably join as well
-
I’m in, might camp out there that weekend. Not sure if the ghost airstrip is reservable with all the covid bs, but...... is anyone else interested in camping that weekend? I could try to book it.
-
Or just camp off the transalta somewhere. Maybe I’ll throw the chains on the truck and trailer and see if I can find a good spot on Friday December 4. I’ll bring my snowblower to clear a spot If I need to, going to camp till Monday. We can stop there for hotdogs and coffee on the way out Saturday.

So this is the same day as the Veterans food drive. In case someone has double booked.

Aaaand I’m out...
Thx Eric ;)

I'll go and I'm sure I will camp. There's a nice large area down over the riverbed just by the national park border. that's where I usually camp down there, nice and secluded.
I was there a couple days ago and the fire is still burning up towards the waterfall area. Chopper was dropping water buckets. All trails are open though as well as hiking trails. Unfortunately the road in and down to the riverbed got a minivan makeover so they could haul in some heavy equipment to deal with the fire.

To comply with: https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx
We are limiting this ride to 10 people. If we have more we can break off into 2 different groups.
Please post up how many people are going to accompanying you.
Please remain in your jeeps when we meet in Cochrane, bring your masks, etc, dogs on leashes
2 people in my jeep.

You're old.
....recycled 43 year old.

after 40 you start counting down again to 0. so you're almost a teenager again
i'll be camping around here. https://goo.gl/maps/aYJMf1Nk8Z77n2pB7
just have to drive down the riverbed and around the rock wall to get in.
-
I'm in.
I’ll bring you a bottle of brake fluid!
-
Ok so we're still on, no problems, just you know there's a slight chance the Ice Cliffs aren't Ice but are water cliffs.... Either way should be a blast
-
And yet another good day on the trails!!! Best part was no $50 car wash!! Good idea Rob.
-
Decent day. That trail is much better with more snow but still a nice day in the mountains. And we rescued a dude and his daughter after they crashed their sxs. I think we did well in the situation. I didn’t realize how hurt he actually was until he got up and tried to walk. All the same we got them back to their truck.
-
Great day. Sucks those guys screwed up their sxs and knee and face.
Would have been an AWESOME day to do Cabin creek though, sucks they closed the trail to 4x4s

Also I know it sucks for the day that the ride got cut short. Could we have sent just 2 guys to pull them out? Hind sight yes. But personally I'll make the better safe than sorry call every time I know everyone had the same wave length but yeah just saying it. And the way he twisted his knee "emptying the tank" at the trailhead shows he was a lot worse off than he thought, or maybe he was over confident based on how well it went getting towed out.
Ironically if it wasn't for covid we we would have had the passengers available to drive for him, probably could have even tried driving the thing out under it's own power...
-
We made the right choice on getting him back for sure. But after seeing how bad he was hurt we should have acted sooner I think. But again, he didn’t let on to how bad his knee was. When I drove into the meadow I thought they were stuck and that’s it.
Someone else could have rode in the sxs as well but not as familiar with how it works. So over all we did well. If we had more people we could have just put him in a jeep and take care of the rest. That’s probably the first time I’ve dealt with a serious injury on the trail. Good experience and next time will go smoother.
Our day was cut short but really in the end getting him and his daughter back was way more important. And that’s the part we will remember.
-
All good, thanks for the day.

You may want to relay that experience to the folks at Off-Road Brigade....

Great effort for you guys helping the injured SxS folks. That's what it is all about.
