Title: Tire chains
Post by: The Machinist on January 05, 2021, 09:20:40 PM
Has anyone played around fitting chains on multiple sizes of tires?  I bought a set of chains spec’d to fit my 315/70R17 (34.4”x12.4”) tires, they have cam locks.  Actual tire size is 33.5” on the truck.  I havn’t test fit them yet but I’m going to tomorrow.  I’m wondering if I can make them also fit my 33x13.5R15 swampers?  Actual height is 32”.  Or my 33x12.5R15 duratracs on my exploder?  Tomorrow’s project, gonna see if I can somehow make them fit all three sizes.  Hopefully there’s enough slack and adjustments where needed.

You can shorten them up to fit different sizes. I don’t think you can go too much though and still fit the bigger tire. The down side is you might need extra clearance to fit the chains on your jeep and explorer. And if I recall you don’t have a lot of fender clearance on either one.

They fit the swampers on the smallest setting.  Little loose but they will work in a pinch, will just use a few extra bungee cords with the spider bungee and keep it slow.

I think I’ll just keep them in the back just incase I need them to get up a hill and stick to low pressure........

😂  Who am I kidding, let’r buck!
