Being an electrical newb, I kind of like to ask things before "hubby's projects go boom-boom".
I'm getting rid of an older 1975 Mercedes diesel, but the battery is in great condition. I was thinking of putting it into my YJ as a secondary power source for future electrical...is there any problem with using a diesel battery, as long as it isn't connected to the main battery and used strictly for secondary applications?
Thanks,
Darcy

There is no difference between batteries for a diesel and gas vehicle other than that diesels are usually a bit bigger.
That being said it could be used as a second battery in your YJ however there are a few different ways to go about doing it. In any case its good to have batteries that are similar in size, rating and age(the closer the better).
Do a search on here or any other 4X4 board, there is lots of info and opinons on how to do it.

Yeah, it's quite a bit larger, that was what I was worried about.

If it fits in the tray you could use it instead of the stock YJ one.

When you put a second battery in your jeep how do you plan to wire it? It's a lot more complicated than most initially think to properly employ a second battery. Try reading up on hellroaring.com's literature. They make a battery isolator/combiner setup that's pretty sweet. They offer two battery setups. By far the best option. They also have good technical support to help you understand the principals.

I stuck dual optimas in a YJ.
can use them as a welder if you wanted to. Lots of power
