Post by: Da_chopper on July 11, 2005, 06:59:35 PM
Anyone interested in a light run after the show and shine. And possibly Sunday as well (provided the Jeep's still running)?

Is Mclean Ck drier that Waiparous? Why the preference?

Hey da chopper

I am going to guess that CJ-7 prefers Mclean as it closer to the city, and the roads are paved all the way till you get to the parking lot. It is more realistic to go to maclean if you just want to do a shorter day.

Less time on the highway means less gas and more time on the trails.

no local boys want to show us around,

We should have 4 or more jeeps coming down.

Either place is good for me, since we'd probably have to come back to town for gas anyways. We could try to do 1 day at each place maybe, get a feel for both.

Anoyne recommend any trails? I went out last week and tried to run a trail that a stocker could do in 1 hr (before the floods)...I spent 3 hrs winching before I turned around.

Any good ideas for places I can take some out of towners?

Hey Joey, how about Fisher West, good hard packed access and then rocky climb over the crest, descend to Silvester which is also a good road and continue onto Quirk Ridge Trail.   You could return the same way or try Fish Creek West, Elbow Trail was blocked last time I was out there (V-days).  Hell, I might even join you dudes, yeah I hate deep mud as well   .

Tom, would be cool to have another "semi-veteran" out there :) I hate being the guy responsible for leading the crew down a trail, where we run out of gas, food and water...Atleast this way, we can share the liability

Its friggin weird out there...Rutted sections have been filled with silt and flattened...Flat section someone how a river running thru them and now have Jeep sized rutts that seem to have appeared out of no-where...

We will meet up at the S&S around noon. Some of the Jeeps coming down want to register. So we could Calgary anytime between 12:30 and 2pm.

Does you cell phone work out there? Pm me or Joey your number and we can call you when we are heading out.

How does cb 14 work for everyone?

The Edmonton group camped out at Waiparous gravel pit on Sat. night.  They will be ready to go ( and some from Cowtown meeting them I think ) at 09:00 am Sunday ( at the gravel pit ).  Show them around Waiparous.

wow, we had a great trip

Thanks to Tom and Joey for bring us to the top of the world ;). That rock climb was awsome!

We ended up camping by the river, but we at the gravel pits from 9-10:30 playing around. Didn't meet up with anyone though.  A couple of the rubi's learnt how to fly - one 2 wheels and the other actually landed on the gas tank skid first   .

Waiparous was way more muddy, but for most part not too bad if you have a winch, we had to turn around a couple of times due to washouts.

2 jeeps blew clutch fans and keep over heating and another snapped the front DS. I was lucky and got out without any know breakage. Here are some pics (http://www.math.ualberta.ca/~sdesaulniers/07-16-2005/)
Hmmm, maybe Joey is right

I'm glad you guys had fun!!!  :D  :D  :D

Me, Joel, Denise and Matt were looking for you guys on Sunday. We went to the gravel pit and also near the river (at the so called "CJA camp site"). We were there between 9:30 and 10:00 AM.  I wish we would have found you guys because we had an excellent day ( with minimal mud!!!). We went to the Hunter Valley area after we waited for a while at the Gravel pit.  Let us know next time you guys come down... we'll do TOUR #2. :D

It was nice to meet you all.

Cheers,
Dom

Hahah! That may just have to become my motto..."Its a Jeep thing, Mud is evil".

Glad you guys had fun at McLean! Going back now to look at the pics, gotta see a shot of Norm doing the massive nose dive into that hole :)

Also, thanks "Asia" (Tom) for coming out with us, made for a great afternoon!

Joey

hmmm, we were at the very back playing in sand and trying to get some cell phone coverage. It's weird out there, move a couple of inches and you loose reception. Too bad we miss each other.

I am not sure where we were, it took us all day to get to mud bogs, then we just left down that main road. We had to turn around a couple of time due to wash outs.
