Title: Heard of Nates4x4? Looking for a 'reasonably priced' XJ bumper!
Post by: dubbleJs on January 14, 2008, 04:33:41 PM
Im looking to get an aftermarket bumper for my '91 XJ, found this one...anyone have any better suggestions?
This one looks decent and is reasonably priced, although the price goes up when you choose that you want Dring brackets etc etc. Comes to about $230 with the Dring tabs and brush guard.
It says the "wrap around" is only for 97+ but why would that even matter? I dont see why you couldnt trim my 91 just like they trimmed the 97+ XJ's in the pic....

Opinions and suggestions welcome, I dont want to spend much more than $250.

yup you can definitely trim yours like that.  they just say that because the 97+ ones are already like that - no trimming required.

One thing I look for in a good bumper is does the driver's bracket incorporate the steering box bolts? I pulled my bolts right thru the unibody so when I built my bumper I incorporated the steering box bolts into the winch mount to reinforce the frame at that point.

Hmm doesnt look like this one uses the steering box bolts...oh well. Its looking like I might order this one (if nate will reply to emails :-\) unless there's other suggestions for one in that price range...

thanks for the replies.

I ordered this one from Warrior Products (thru Modern Motors) without the grill guard but with the D-ring mounts. $300

Without that bush guard, that is one of the cleanest bumpers I have ever seen. That should look great!

Hey smurf, hows the gas mileage with the 4.56's?

Love 'em so far. I haven'yt towed the trailer yet, but it should make a huge difference. I haven't driven it much. I just got my long arms, so I'll be putting them on in a week or so, then the rear bumper should be here...god, it never ends.

I have the nates xj bumper, i'm very happy w/ it for the price. it does use/reinforce the steering box mounts and has taken a real beating, it's not the most elegant thing though, and is not very compact...unless you are lifted a few inches at least, it sticks out too much...though with 4 inches of lift and 33;'s it's no pfroblem. pm me if you want to come take a closer peek....oh yeah and nate is trustworthy and reliable....but slow to respiond to emails etc.

I also have his tj bumper....nothing special, but it was like $80 or something!
