Not starting unless foot in exact right position
« on: November 15, 2008, 07:48:44 PM »
Hello all,  my 05 Jeep TJ does not start unless clutch is in exact correct position.  This is getting worse and worse.  Is there a spot that needs a little TLC with a scratch pad or is this internal?

I have read some posts that people have jumpered the switch.  Is this to remedy the problem that I am experiencing?

Thanks,
D

There is a fuse you can pull so that you can start your TJ without having the clutch depressed.  I would imagine removing that fuse should solve your problem.

Had this exact same problem on my 03 TJ, yes it can be cleaned and fixed but more than likely it won't last long and you will have the same problem again. bypassing is the easiest fix; however, if you have a cruise control, just remember that it will no longer register if/when your clutch is disengaged.

So I pulled my Horn fuse and installed into Clutch Overide slot.  The 4x4 light stays on and the engine picks some revs during idling when the fuse is installed.  Is this normal?  If not whats going on?

Still would like to know where the switch is so I can fix.  I like the clutch in feature.

Thanks to all posters.

The switch is located just out of view on the shaft just above the clutch pedal..... look for two wires. When I first began to have this problem I would give the switch and shaft a good does of electrical cleaner and work the switch back and forth to help clean out the contacts. Now I just kick it and swear at it frequently, this method seems to be just as effective at times. ;)
