I have a 1980 cj7 with a straight six 258. It originally had a 304 ci v8. I am trying to hook up a tach. from a 6 cylinder to the wiring harness from the 304 but it has a 3 wire connector and now I only need 2 wires.
anyone have any ideas what I can do?

I would assume that the 2 wire harness grounded through the body of the tach, which leaves a switched 12V power source and a wire to the negative side of the coil, but I could be wrong.

It is the factory cj 6 cylinder tach that I am putting in but the 2 wires from it are red and none of the old wires are red.
