For a start, can anyone tell me what the specs for the 6 cyl and 4 cylinder jeep engines in terms of max HP and Torque?
I am doing research into types of deisel engine's to use for an eventual swap into my '01 wrangler. Something that caught my interest was a suggestion from my boss, that I should look into a 97 ish VW 1.9L turbo diesel. They are completely mechanical and require only wiring for cranking the engine over. Here is some of the HP&T specs taken from Fred's TDI page:
The A4 Jetta, New Beetle, and A4 Golf were rated at 90hp and 155ft.lbs.
The PD version are available in New Beetles (2004 - 2006), Jettas (2004 -2006), Jetta Wagons (2004 - 2006), Golfs (2004 -2005), B5 Passat (2004 and 2005), and the 2005 V10 Toureg. The PD found in the New Beetles, Jettas, and Golfs are rated at 100hp and 177ft.lbs torque from a 1.9l engine. The B5 Passat with it's 2.0l TDI pumped out 134 hp and 247 ft.lbs of torque. The king of power is the 5.0l 310HP V10 Touareg that puts out 553 ft.lbs of torque which will be back as a 2007 model.
* I know that these are not 97ish, just an example*
Now I am not a fan of VW vehicles, but they're diesel's are putting on a good show. Another cool thing is the fact that they are Direct Injection. Direct Injection would be my choice of all the solid injection diesel's because the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, there is a 15-20% better fuel economy rate than other types of indirect injections. With that also accompanies an overall better power output. The only downside is the noise of DI, but unlike most, I personally like the racket of metal machine.
Can't seem to find an adapter kit to mate one with my NV3550 tranny.
Anyone have any other idea's of some good swap options? Know of any supporting adapter kits?
