Rear clunking
« on: January 05, 2009, 07:36:55 PM »
2001 XJ
I put a new set of leaf springs on the vehicle to get it back up to stock height and get rid of the sag. I also put new shocks on at the same time (munroe sensatracs).  Whenever I go over a bump the rear end clunks. I can't seem to find it exactly and I don't see any metal that has been scratched. Anyone have any ideas where it could be coming from? I'm thinking maybe the shocks themselves but I can't find anywhere on the net that anyone else has had a problem with them. I also put on new shackles for the rear and new bushings for the front and rear springs.

Yo, I sent you a link to another forum and a guy had a similar issue with clunking and it could be the bushing that goes through the eye of the shock.

seen this in a yj if it helps
it was the bolt holding the leaf spring in place, going through the frame it had worn the frame  hole bigger that it should be,
then when the suspension unloaded going over a bump it would clunk was a pain in the arse to fix  but an easy one with a longer bolt and some plate welded onto the frame to hold the bolt into place
just a though  :o
