The Illusive D30 4.88+ R&P ~TJ Thread~
« on: May 05, 2009, 06:35:37 PM »
ok. so it has come up in idle conversation many many many times about what the highest gearing for a TJ's front D30 is. Now there is a Reverse Spiral (high pinion) version of the D30 but thats NOT what where talking about. Neither are we discussing the JK's D30. This is exclusive for the TJ!!! This is the ONCE AND FOR ALL lowest gearing possible for a TJ DANA 30 thread.

ok. So, as always, the answer to the question is: 4.88

But there has always been that post mentioned, shady, doubt filled mumble that sounds "I think there is a company that makes a 5.13 R&P for the TJ's D30, but heard it's kinda weak..."

I am guilty for saying this to people. I cant remember if I just heard it, and repeated it like we all sometimes do, or if I have actually seen it online.

So, if anyone knows FOR SURE and can provide a link to the mystical 5.13 R&P please post up. We know the JK has the option of a 5.13, and I think there may be a D30-RS 5.13 option as well, so dont bring those up in a post. Please just speak up if you have proof of a standard rotation D30 5.13, or have an interesting urban legend to share.

On the Precision Gear website it states there is no 5.13s available, but there is 5.38s, http://www.precisiongear.com/dana30.htm

Found another site that shows Yukon also has 5.38s

I wouldnt do it. Im not big beleive in pinion size due to gear reduction making that significant of a difference, but 538 would really be pushing it  in a 30.

Highpinion, 4 cylinder, maybe. Still a stretch.

X2 x 100

If you have ever seen a Dana 30 4.56 gear-set, you would/should run as fast as possible away from a 5.38 Dana 30 gear-set.

Probably have all of ONE tooth contact at any given time = very very bad = boom = FAWK
