Jeep suggestions.

Hello everyone.

I am new to this forum.  I have a 09 Forester XT that I use for planning in the dirt.  I spend a lot of time in the Ghost River forestry area.  However, it is still a company car.

I am looking for suggestions on a Jeep Wrangler type 2 door.

Questions:
Do I need a 6 cyl?
Would auto do for off road?

I would like to start with a solid Jeep and add the appropriate gear as money allows. 

Can I get a Jeep for $5000 or less?  The wife would prefer much less.

Would auto do for off road? I personally prefer autos for off road.... but really hard to bump start an auto when your starter konks out on the trail.

autos are 100x better BUT as i can attest to last weekend,, a standard is much nicer when you blow your starter motor!


as far as finding a jeep for 5k. look for something stock.  chances are lifted jeeps have been abused (not wheeled)  and are in need of a lot of work.  lotta people bag em, and don't do hte necessary maintenence (like changing diff/tcase fluids when there is hunks of mud floating around in there)

Yes,... get the 6 cyl.... we live in the Rockies...you'll need that extra humph!


You have more control with an auto but a manual is more bush friendly like Johnny says

I gave a hand to Ristin here on the site  last week or so when he was looking for a 2nd Jeep more for  the trail.. He actually found a real nice and clean 97TJ with low KM for $4500.00... it had 2" lift with 31" tires. We were looking for a stock rig but this ones was a deal he couldn't refused...

whats not listed its only got the hard top, carpet is removed and insides been painted, and it runs good from when I took it for a test drive.
