Carpet removal
« on: August 05, 2009, 08:08:51 PM »
Hey all,

After all the rain we've been getting I'm thinking about finally ripping out the carpet in the '88 YJ. It's a little too funky lately to say the least. A few questions though... do you notice a huge noise difference? Not that it matters much anyway to me, just curious. Also, do you think there's a benefit to the carpet in the winter... ie: insulation. I freeze my beans off enough in it anyway so I was just wondering about your various experiences. Right on, thanks again.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. I would eventually herculine the thing, but I doubt I'd get to it before winter this year. Guess I'll have to see how energetic I get on days off  :P

Depending on which motor you've got, your feet could get pretty warm!!

But I like to drive barefoot in the summer, your mileage may vary.

i ripped out my carpet from my xj and replaced it with liner, i love it but the 4.0l does heat the tunnel a lot. its not really noisier but you can hear your suspention more. imho do it!

If it's an auto the floor will be too hot to touch with bare feet.  It'll keep you warm in the winter.  It is noisier but who cares about noise.
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦

It's the all powerful 2.5L, and if it gives off a little extra heat in the winter I'm all for it! And if the noise thing was important I probably wouldn't have bought an '88 Jeep! Maybe I'll do it right away. It kind of smells like swamp and mildew... but I'm sure it's healthy for you.  :D

i pulled the rear carpet and kept the front carpet in. with my doors on it keeps mud out ok up front. the rear gets coverd. so this way i can powerwash it out no problem. i pull the drain plugs and let'r rip. (and pull remainder of carpet away)  workin well so far? as for winter? ya probably be cooler.  i'm gonna rhino line it too, but its all good. i wear a toque and gloves in the winter anyways. whats another sweater?

Yeah, and I guess when it all comes down to it, minus 40 isn't that different from minus 45. When it's cold it's cold!  8)
