97 TJ battery/volts
« on: August 12, 2009, 05:12:51 PM »
My battery wouldn't hold a charge and my alternator was squealing so I had the belt replaced (thinking this would solve both problems) but that didn't fix it so i had the alternator replaced but my old battery still wouldn't hold a charge so i took it out and replaced it with the optima one from my cherokee. It was dead from sitting all winter so i boosted it and the jeep took right off. I let it idle for 5 or 10  min then decided to take it for a spin to help charge, it got 100 meters down the road and the check gauges light came on and i noticed the volt gauge was maxing out. I turned around and and parked it and shut it off tried to start it again but nothing....i don't want my battery to explode or something so I didn't try to boost it again.
Any ideas??

Electrical stuff boggles my mind so any help is appreciated. I do have a meter but have never used it as I don't know what it should read :(

that the ECM sends out a pulse-width modulated field current to control the output of the alternator.

Showoff! You're flux capacitor needs to have its neutrino polarity reversed, or neutralize the multibeaming subspace capacitor with micro-optic subspace pulse-wave!  ;D

There has to be a garage in Langdon, or close by that can test the alternator for ya. Or someone who knows how to use the right tool for the job!
Hopefully you still have the receipts for the new alternator and the new battery!
