Odd bogging problem with my 99 XJ
« on: August 25, 2009, 02:34:44 PM »
Don't know if anyone else has run into this but thought I'd throw it out there and see.

My 99XJ bogs out very badly when i have 1/4 of gas or less and I make a hard left turn.  It runs fine any other time but once I get to 1/4 tank.. any left turn results in it bogging right out and almost stalling.  I'm guessing its got something to do with the fuel pickup but  haven't dropped the tank to check things or anything.

Anyone else seen this? know what a fix is?  Do I just make sure I don't drive too much with less that 1/4 tank?

Had a ZJ like that. Its the fuel pickup. It rides on two rails that are spring loaded to push it against the bottom of the tank. Someone on my ZJ it had come up on the rails and jammed so it wasn't sitting on the bottom of the tank.

To fix I removed the fuel pump assembly, cleaned the rails and made sure everything moved smoothly then stuck it back in.
