Newer Jeep

Hi, i just found this club after some you tube videos. My lady has a Jeep X with the upgraded tires and i was wondering how much off road we could do without tearing it up too bad. I have to be responsible about it cause it is her jeep, but im new to Calgary and i want to use her jeep in the manner it was built for. Any "branchless" trails, she is more worried about scratches of all things.  Its an 07 and only has 47kkm. So any suggestions would be helpful.

Well i just read some stuff on the forums, i see a few trails and what not, but i would be a beginner so still not sure how to go about starting this, and at the same time not scaring my lady out of the idea on the first trip.

It might be a good idea if you have never been out before to wait until the next Jeep 101 (I'm not sure when that is I assume next spring) it was pretty good for showing you what kind of things you can do with your Jeep.  I imagine you will be suprised.
We have wheeled with our 2008 rubicon for the last year and haven't really got any good scratches, it does work out nicer with the soft top on (if you have one) the hard top scratches really easy. 
If you don't wanna wait until the next 101 then keep an eye on the Open Trail rides section and post up saying you wanna go out.

Make sure that you have tow points on the front and back, a good tow strap or winch, they seem to like CB's here but its not 100% necessary on all runs.

Wheeling is definatly fun, but it seems once you start all you want is more and to get a bigger Jeep.

By "upgraded tires", do you mean it has the same tires/wheels as the Rubicon model? If so, those tires will serve you well.

An '07 Wrangler "X" is a reasonably capable trail machine. Provided that you have front and rear tow points, many of the "newbie-friendly" runs would be well within your Jeep's abilities.

One word about the scratches - what you get in terms of scratches depends on how you drive, and where you go. Most of the easier runs can be done without touching your paintwork...but understand that it takes a while to build up the experience and know exactly where you can go without brushing a tree branch, and where you can't.

If you worry about scratching your jeep maybe you should not do any offroading with it. You never know what might happen on the trail.  Before any runs I always say that anyone that come may damage their vehicle. It's not that we are looking to trash our rigs but anything could happen when you take your Jeep offroad. Nobody plans to roll their vehicles but an inexperience driver might make a mistake that can put him/her in alot of trouble. So if you worry about scratches,... may be it's not the sport for you.

Try hwy 940... and it's forestry roads... it's runs North South along the foothills. You will see lots of nice sceneries. There might be a few cows & wild life creatures on this gravel road and you might get a rock chip....but that's about it.

My 2 cents.  I beat the crap outta my 07' on its baby little stocker tires.  Thing did fine on everything except mud for a while (I ended up tearing them, but then that was a good excuse to upgrade to 35's).  The JK's do really well offroad.  The X's (like mine) have open differentials and no disconnecting sway-bar.  Bring the tools you need to disconnect your bar, or you'll destroy the links (like I did).  Put it in 4-low and you might just have to hammer down on the gas pedal a bit more than guys with lockers, but it'll do awesome.

Tow points are definitely required.  That was the only thing I waited for before I took mine out.  That and a winch, but you can normally get away without a winch as long as you're not the lead vehicle.
