Oil Pressure Gauge
« on: September 24, 2009, 08:09:39 PM »
So tonight on my drive home while sitting idling at a light my oil pressure needle buried itself on the high side of the gauge. Thirty seconds later while barely moving in stop and go traffic the needle returned to the usual readings I have noticed. Is there anything I should be concerned about? Low km engine (78,000) but having said that it has been on its roof before. Temp stayed fine, no wierd sounds or performance issues. I am chalking it up to a sending unit on the out. I also missed every one with the summer of no wheeling (bought our first house) and thought I should start a thread!

Let me know your thoughts. (I know there is no real way of telling with out a mechanical gauge installed so maybe I'll do that this weekend.)
Buy some safety glasses.
You can jackoff with a fake hand but you cant see out of a glass eye.

Sending unit for sure.  I had to replace mine at 120,000 kms, it's common for them to crap out.
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦

Most likely cause is a sending unit on it's way out, or else a wiring issue.  have only seen once where pressure relief stuck closed @ pump and caused the condition you are describing (mind you, this was at 6500 rpm).  The oil pump will not produce enough pressure to pin the gauge at idle anyways....... ;)
