My Dad's Pipes
« on: October 06, 2009, 08:06:25 PM »
Hey every one, I just thought I would share this with you.

My Father passed away july 2nd of this year :'(, he was 65 and I miss him alot. One of the things that always reminds me of him is a pipe, when I was young I remember him smoking a pipe and always loved the smell. He quit smoking them when I was about 10, and when I moved back in with him when I was 16 or so I built him a case to display all the different pipes he collected over the years. My dad was quite the outdoors man and one of the reasons I love to get out to nature and do some wheeling, I remember going with him out in his old international scout around the prairies and mountains and the smell of the pipe makes me feel like he is still with me. Anyway tonight I was able to pick up my dads pipe collection from his wife, oh how the smell brings back memories! So I thought I would share this with the comunity and in some small way help myself get over the loss of my father.

So here is my fathers collection:

If anyone knows anything about pipes I would love to hear it, or any info on the pipes in my collection, and yes I do plan on smoking a couple in his memory ;)

My uncle Vern (my mother's oldest brother) also smoked pipes. When he passed away in 2000, I was able to keep half of his pipe collection.

Like you, I think that enjoying one of the things that brought Vern pleasure is a great way of remembering him - especially when I do it in a place that I know Vern would love. Like your father, Vern was an outdoorsman. He loved fishing and snowmobiling in Northern Ontario.

I don't profess to be any sort of expert on pipes, but I'll be more than happy to pass on what's worked for me as far as packing/lighting/cleaning.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(
