Lexan rear hard top glass - YJ
« on: October 18, 2009, 07:10:40 PM »
So, I took the afternoon and got the hard top on today with S-Fly's help. Included in this task was replacing the rear hatch glass with a lexan window.

I bought a 4'x8' sheet for $175 from Liard Plastics. I only needed a 3x4. Lexan is way tougher then plexi...before I got rid of my rear window I had traced the outline onto a peice of cardbord as a template. So I traced from this onto the lexan sheet then cut it with a jigsaw with a metal type blade. No issues with cracking or chiping. Most annoying thing was that if I went too fast, the lexan would melt and make a mess so it went slow. We then drilled the holes which worried me given past experience with plexi but this stuff is tough and we had no issues.

pics below of finished product.  If anyone is interested to do this as well, I have the remaining 4'x5' sheet of lexan and the cardboard template for a YJ rear window. You can split the cost with me...$90

My greatest fear is that when I die, my wife sell all my stuff for what I said I paid for it.

Thats sweet.  I might look at that for the 3B window when I need it.

How does it seem to seal?  Looks pretty good.

The OEM glass is not completely flat so the window is forced to bend a bit at the top. Seems to seal fine...my top still seems to have a bunch of fluffy weather striping :)

I would be interested in the other half. I have a hard top with the same problem (no back window, fluffy seals)
If you would like to PM me, we can set up to meet
Thx
