FYI, I bought this and installed it with S-Fly's help on the weekend. The controller that comes with it now is knob adjustable, has AC control, and a supports a constant 'On' override (we wired it for a constant off override instead). Seems pretty good. Cost was $350 + tax at Mopac...in stock no less. Install was easy, bolted right on to the new rad with no modifications necessary. The back of the fan is only 1/2" or so from the old fan pulley bolts. Is this a concern?
I installed it as directed with the temp probe near the rad intake. Previously with the clutch fan, my temp guage was a rock at 1/4 once the jeep warmed up. No matter the situation, highway or crawling, it never fluctuated. I originally set the electric fan to come on at about 3/8 and it shut off about 1/4. However, driving around the neighborhood at only 40kph, the fan ran constantly. Strange, I figured once I was moving the fan would rarely come on.
This is not the case, when the engine is working, the rad alone doesn't do enough to cool it down even at 100kph. Without the fan, the temp creeps indefinitely. This might be because the the new fan and complete shroud (when not running) is a huge restriction to airflow or just the the previous clutch fan would still be going at least 20-30% engine speed no matter your rpm.
I now have it set to come on just over the 1/2 mark and it shuts off just below 3/8 just so it doesn't run so often. Not sure if putting the temp probe on the rad outlet would change anything as in the end you want to keep the engine temp down and that is measured at the engine out/rad in.
