Just Wondering?
« on: November 19, 2009, 06:48:22 PM »
Just a question. I have the 4.5 RE short arm kit on my Jeep. I called around to see how much it would cost to upgrade to a Long Arm Kit and its pretty pricey. My question is if I have the Rubicon Express kit can I use another Long Arm Kit from another manufacturer to upgrade the pieces I need to make my Rubicon Express lift a long arm kit? I am thinking it would probably be best to upgrade my RE Short Arm Kit to a RE Long Arm Kit. Any thoughts?

You certainly can upgrade to a long-arm kit from a different manufacturer.

I have heard many many positive comments and reviews of the Iron Rock Offroad "Critical Path" long-arm kits, and they also have long arm 'upgrade' kits that can be used with existing lifts from 4"-8".
Be advised that the kits to look for from IRO are the ones labelled as 'critical path'. These use a special Y-shaped control arm, which are the ones garnering favourable reviews. In a nutshell, they provide incredibly well-mannered performance on-road, and even better flex performance off-road :)

Personally I've been looking into their XJ kits, and I know they make them for the Grand Cherokee ZJ and WJ also, although I am not sure what other jeep models they have their critical path kits available for.

You can check out their website here:

DECEASED - 'Big Ben' (black '97 XJ) : ~9" lift - 35's - Ford 9" - 4.56 gears - armoured up - ...and a sound system that can annoy the hell out of Lemon-aid Jay!!
NEXT - Dark green '98 XJ to build up....

Luckily Rich they dont make anything for TJ's, so dont waste your time looking at this stuff.

Seriously, another variation of a crappy radius arm suspension. Hooray!!!!

Richard, your best "critical path" is to just sell the RE stuff complete, and have a quality suspension built/installed. The RE long arm upgrade is not one of those "quality suspensions" for around here.

If you not in a hurry I am building a new shop in the spring and can set you up with a good suspension after that.

If you are in a hurry then call my freind Brink and discuss having him do your suspension.
