Oil Filter size

Just replaced the mopar oil filter with a fram and the cannister is about 2/3rds the size.
Is the fram a poorer quality? What is the difference?

I don't really think it matters.  I know back "on the farm" we always kept the bigger ones in stock, they fit the old dodge trucks and the mustang I had, same on the jeep too from what I remember.

Depending on which fram you get it is kind of poor quality.  I think the duraguards are the better out of the bunch (the one with the black grippy stuff at the bottom).  I've been using napa gold though.

I chose the 6X which seemed to be better.  Maybe next time I should try NAPA to get a better quality.
The fram have that black grippy surface on the end now too.

I own my own auto repair shop, and just so you all know, Fram is S#%T. Use NAPA gold (made for Napa by WIX)

Interesting reading. At least I put in the least criticized fram filter. Next time though I'll try a wix though.  Oddly enough, I called National 4x4 and they said they had never heard of wix filters.

I have been using Wix for years without issue. Not a fram fan whats so ever.  Never opened the links posted, but I'm a heavy duty mechanic buy trade, and if the filter is light do to its lighter mounting flange and lower in price, move on to another brand.  So look at the construction/weight and check reviews. Please also note that oem filters and parts are getting very competitive at the dealer, so don't be afraid to get a price there.

Yes that's the word....avatar. Couldn't think of the word. Quite a flood for Calgary!! Made me think of a similar looking underpass in Montreal that was prone to flooding.
Anyway on my way home I went by Auto value and picked up a wix filter. Also got a wix air filter $33. (replaceable).   They also had a K&N reusable filter but I wasn't convinced that I could get it clean properly and it was double the price($77). Are these easy to clean.  Anyone done it?

I have a quaker state that i think is made by purolator.  It is fine, I get it at crappy tire.  I blow my can tire cash on them, so it is essentially free.  If you are buying quaker filters, the green ones are made by fram, the white ones are made my purolator, supposedly.

I use Amsoil oil and filter.. have had no problems at all
