Looking for an answer...
« on: December 30, 2009, 04:26:58 PM »
A customer of mine needs a Dana 44 For a 2004 Jeep Unlimited.  We have located a Dana 44 but it is out of an 04 Rubicon SWB.  They have different Chrysler Part numbers and do not interchange with each other on the hollander system.  I have done some investigation but cannot find any major difference.  Both of these 44's appear to have one piece shafts, 5 on 4.5 wheels, 8.5 ring and pinion, disk brakes, true trac with 3.73's.  I did find a site that mentioned something about the SWB being 66.7 wide and the LWB being 68.3 wide but couldn't confirm it.  Has anyone come across or dealt with these 44's to know if perhaps the disk brakes are different (ie bigger/smaller rotor)? or my other thought would be high vs low pinion.

If you guys know of any good jeep tech sites or have any insite of your own I would like to help this customer get his customers jeep back on the road.

i agree

so the gears will have to be changed out to match the front
as for difference in mounting points i dont see there being much of a difference since there are alot of people putting a dana 44 into  TJ sports that dont come with the 44

my brothers unlimited came with a 44 in the rear

Identical diffs mounting wise. Just different gears and carrier.
