COG...
« on: January 27, 2010, 09:45:16 PM »
I'm trying to calculate the COG of my jeep, which requires a weight station, the one i always use is the one south on highway 2A, but the only thing i am missing is a way to raise the front of the jeep minimum 2 feet or more of the ground by the tire patch, using a jack does not work and messes up the calculations. so

does anyone know a way i could easily lift the front end?? all ramps i know of are only 1 foot tall. anyone have a flatdeck thats 2 feet of the ground?? and willing to drive out to the weight station?? or any other safe sugestions?

BTW here is a link incase you are wondering how to calculate COG http://www.jeepaholics.com/tech/cog/

thanks
Rafal

II have access to a scale and a payloader. If you have a decent set of tow hooks  and a reciever I can get 2 feet off the ground

Just east of the city this side of Strathmore has a scale with a ton of area on it, and it's free to use. Not sure about the 2' height, maybe get some 8x8 blocks and stack them up in a step style so that you can basically drive up onto them. Be sure to screw them together though...

hmm that has me thinking, thats a good idea, maybe i can stack some old rims from PnP together and weld them up, basicaly creating a ramp, 4 rims together on the ground and one rime on top in the middle like a piramid, all welded together, and drive up it like you mentioned. that way it can be used in the future too....

just thinking out loud which could be dangerous.

What if someone with big tires went with you and you climbed up onto their tire?

I wanted to do the COG and also was stumped at the 2 foot ramp.  I thought of the 12" ramps on the back of a flat deck...but I've yet to find a flat deck. There is lots of room on the scale on the Okotoks road.  Just a question of where in the city you live.  Anyway I have the 12" ramps if you can come up with the trailer.

There is not a thing in the world that we do to our jeeps that would require you to have an accurate COG. My advice would be to stop taking the jeep "nerds" so seriously, and do what you need to do. Then run it, and dial it.

I build custom suspension, do 1 ton and coilover conversions here and there. Never have I, or any of my other  self fabbing freinds got carried away with CoG calcs. We dont even do accurate corner weights that much anymore. Testing and tuning is a way more reliable means of dialing stuff in properly.

Do a run with Billy and you'll learn all you need to know about your CoG.   ;D
