99 Cherokee Break Issue

So... i had to hit the brakes fairly hard today to avoid a crappy driver.  Go figure. 

This seems to have brought to light a fairly major issue. 

When i mash the brakes to the floor...  only my driver side front brake locks up.  Everything else seems to continue spinning. 

I know the rear brakes dont generally do a whole lot... maybe 25% ish.  My concern is why only one of my front brakes seems to be locking up. 

1.)  Anything i can do/check to attempt to fix this?  I'm fairly handy on my own. 
2.)  IF it should be done by a pro... any suggested brake shops in town?

have you bleed the brakes lately?

I can honestly say that in the past year and a bit that i've owned the jeep... i've done nothing to it with regards to brakes. 

Bleeding the breaks is generally a fairly simple task... i can sure give that a shot.

did it pull something fierce to that side? 

sounds like  seized caliper.  i had one; didn't know until i hit the brakes hard and drove off mcleod trail......  i can't remember which one it was, or which way it pulled. but i believe if your drivers is good, it should pull you that way....

Nope... didnt pull... just locked and skidded.  I kept going straight and didnt have any major pull in the steering at all. 

It was for sure the drivers side that locked.  As i repeated the situation on a side street 4 or 5 times with the windows down checking to make sure i knew which one was in fact locking up.

check caliper sliders, they get gummed up with crap and can stick. other problem mat be where the pads slide on the knuckle, causes grooves to form over time and the pads stic kin the grooves. or, you got a seizing caliper. all the joys of wheeling in alberta.

I was feeling lazy today... so i called around and found a shop that does "free brake inspection".

The good news is... they said im crazy.  Apparently all 4 wheels are cripping no problem and they were unable to replicate the single wheel locking up issue i was having. 

Now the other side of the coin is this... im left wondering "do they really know what the hell they're doing?"

I guess i'll see what happens over the next while and go from there. 

Plus side is i have a clean bill of health for the jeeps braking system from an actual brake shop.   haha
