Good day everyone,
On the last couple of open runs and members runs, I have seen and have been told about some issues that are arising with some of the basic guidelines and practices. We are fast approaching the busier parts of the year and I would like to nip it now before a serious problem occurs.
- As a club rule, a full size spare is required. A full size spare is a spare that matches in diameter size the 4 tires that are on the axles. i.e. if you have 33 inch tires, you must have a 33 inch spare.
- Make sure your tires and rims are in good condition and not worn out. Ensure the spare holds air.
- Ensure your rig is mechanically sound. On the trial, you are working your rig to the max and that is when failures may happen.
- Check for leaks before going out on the trail. We are talking about leaks not weeps. Jeeps weep. If a weep stops, start worrying - you may have a bigger problem. If something is leaking, it can and will fail. Leaving home for the trail knowing that you have a leak of any kind is not acceptable. You are putting yourself and others in danger and not doing any favours for the environment.
- Batteries, coolant reservoirs, washer fluid reservoirs, etc. must be secured down so they can not move. Having them fall off leaves litter on the trail and can cause other failures on the trail.
- Properly mounted and secured recovery points are required. Nothing should be bolted to sheet metal or plastic. Use proper mounting hardware as well. If you have any form of doubt or questions please ask. An improper mount can fail during a recovery and can seriously injure or kill someone.
- Proper conduct on the trails is must at all times.
- Please keep the person behind you in your mirror. CBs have short range and do not transmit go over hills very well. This is a safety point because something can happen very fast on the trail. The people in the vehicle behind you may not be able to radio for help.
- If you are a spectator, please stand in a safe place that is out of the path of the approaching vehicles, especially in snow and mud. You can slip and the vehicles stopping distance is increased.
- Always wear your seat belt. It will hold you in the vehicle.
- Do NOT get out of the vehicle when it is moving. If you are in a rollover or downhill slide, stay in the vehicle. That is the safest place.
- No offensive language on the radios. You never know who is in radio range. If you have something to say to or about someone and not willing to say it their face, Keep it to yourself.
