2.5L questions
« on: March 25, 2010, 05:01:34 PM »
So I just got my hands on an 86 Comanche with a 2.5L. Just wondering what years of 2.5L have  interchangable parts? like heads, manifolds and even a direct engine swap. Thanks!

There were  not alot of changes to the 2.5 during it's production .

There are a couple of different versions of main bearings , to do with the location of the locating tabs

Thottle body injection till 91 when they went with multi point injection

There are a few variations to water pumps , depending on whether it was V belt or serpentine belt ,  the rotation is oposite on those  , there are differences to the length of waterpumps too.

A few other subtle variations  but they pretty much interchange over a wide range of years with minimal fuss.

I'm gonna sell my 88 Comanche this year , it's a 2.5  /  5spd   /  4.10's  /   short bed    31's  (mtr) on rubicon moab rims   if you or anyone else is looking for parts or a whole   truck

It's  the blue one on the first page  , the only post I submitted in that thread.

I'm trying to save up $$$  to buy a vehicle that was built in this century .

Oh  to stay on topic , 2.5's   are great ,  a solid , reliable engine .  Many compaln it hasn't enough jam , with the right gears in the diffs they do just fine.

Well I found out why the truck was free...head gasket leaks real bad, it leaks coolant out of the back of the head, as fast as I can pour it into the radiator.. Runs good though.

Also the transmission won't go into ANY gear when the truck is running. clutch master cylinder is full of fluid....maybe the slave is bad, or the clutch is done?
