Oil Sands spill free for 10 000 years.

This really gives you a idea of the size of the spill.

Type your hometown in and see how big it is....
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?

I'm the last guy to defend BP, Aaron...but the oil sands being spill free is not guaranteed. Modern recovery methods (SAGD / steam chest / etc) can result in pressures and temperatures that will cause actual blowouts and spills. I know first-hand - I've been part of the crews that respond to those events. Even mining the sand and then extracting it is no guarantee. As soon as the crude is separated from the sand and processed to become marketable, it can be spilled.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

yes that is true, but at the point of excavation it is trapped in the sand. right?

Also if one of those spills dose happen it dose not cover 1/4 of Alberta and case the damage a off shore rig will.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm. ............ well, if a dump truck explodes and drops 300 tonnes of frackin oil/sand.............................................. they pick it back up.  and then process said sand............... oilsands and deep well drilling have nothing in common.  except the end product;

BPs spill isn't even in comparison. even if they capped it 100% tomorrow, there is NO guaranteee the currents don't pull the MILLION barrels of oil spilt around the florida pan handle, and up the coast........ there is a lot of oil still flowing..................

Actually, Canadian oilsands aren't just the "dig it all out" variety. A lot of the recovery for some areas involves drilling using modified conventional methods. The heating and steam injection involved in those processes can result in a well that is completely capable of blowing out. The only difference is that the resulting spill would be in the bush instead of at sea.

This is an area that I have first hand knowledge of, having participated in the response to one such incident.

I don't advocate shutting down oilsands development, but we as
The public need to be aware of the real facts - not just the pap that the oil companies want to feed us.

Any chance that "sandbox" happens to be located in Noel's alley?
