HO head in to a Renix XJ
« on: June 09, 2010, 08:29:05 AM »
I am sure a few of you have done this so I thought I'd ask a few questions.

I blew the motor out of my 88 XJ and having been trying to work out the best way to get it moving again.  I think I've got the bottom end figured out but I'm a bit torn on what to do with the head.  I know the stock 88 renix heads don't flow that well and I do have a 7120 head kicking around the parts heap.

How much trouble would it be to use this head and keep the Renix system intact (or would I even WANT to do that)?
Is it even worth using the 7120 head or would a good port job on the old 2686 head be good enough?

The renix head can be ported to flow just as well as the HO head. The problem is with the exhaust ie: header selection is poor.
Lots of info on the NAXJ site

I run a HO block and assembly with the Renix injection and pacesetter header, works well. Had to gaskett match the intake to the head and massaged the intake a bit but it was really quite easy, going on 2 years now with the combo.

You can swap the 7120 head directly to the older block...And that head will also have the temp sending unit cast into the head also..the only thing is the throttle body sensors are slightly different but easier to swap in the HO sensors than try to mate the renix sensors to the HO TB...Naxja should have some more info..but it can be done easily enough...
Getting grumpier every day.
