VW key cutting???
« on: July 02, 2010, 06:10:32 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a VW key cut in Calgary?  The dealerships refuse to cut any unless you purchase the key from them at $175/key.  I found some on ebay, but want to make sure I can get them cut before I buy them.  The key is one of those side flip-outs (sorta weird looking).

Thanks.

Calgary lock and safe up in the ne. I've had lots of keys cut there and they all worked, if not they probly would know where to send you for it.

$175.00?  Is it a sentry key? and can you program it yourself?

I was in Beacon Hill Canadian Tire recently and they were advertising that they cut now cut all programmable keys. I think the sign said $75.  I didn't really pay that much attention because I just paid $180 to get a new Jeep key cut and I didn't want to rub salt in the wound. :'(

It's nothing short of a crime!  I was able to get my key remotes to work by changing the battery for the second time.  It seems the $13 battery from VW was dead when I bought it.  ARGGGGHHHHHH?

I'm interested to hear what you find as my sister only has one key for her Passat and would like another. The VW keys are VERY different from a regular key, instead of being cut on the edge like a regular key a groove is cut into the sides. The difficultly is getting a copy cut has nothing to do with the chip. Here's an example:
