Jeep JK Wrangler Sport 2010
« on: July 14, 2010, 09:17:22 AM »
So i bought my jeep in december 2009 and i love it just a couple of problem i have noticed is:

1. The damn thing pops out of first gear when i start from a dead stop.

I.e: sitting at lights clutch pressed in, in gear (1st) hand resting on shifter. oh got a itch and wouldn't ya know it the light gose green at the same time so i itch with the right hand let the clutch out at the same time and BLAMO it snaps out of first slamming the shifter back out of gear, me looking like an idiot in the middle of the traffic lane franticly trying to get it back in gear.

So i took it back to tower jeep dealer in february and the took the shifter out bent it put it back in said bobs your uncle its fixed. But the shifter got bent so bad that when i shifted into 2nd, 4th, 6th, R the shifter knob was sitting aprox 1" above cup holder = NFG. So i take it back the replace it with stock crap and tell me the reason it was popping out of first was the cosmetic boot...... ok that done get the jeep back and not more then a month later same problems decide to wait till i get oil change to get them to look at it today. we shall see

2. any idea on vehicle recalls i saw a recall noting the brakes on jeeps from 2007 - 2010

 http://www.arfc.org/autos/jeep/wrangler/recalls/000035963000773769000000062/recall.aspx

bring it to there attention and the are like .... ummm no there are no recalls, I show them the web page and they still say nope no recalls.

Any ideas on how to handle this and weather its normal?

you can go to the jeep website, put in your VIN and see if there are any recalls for your vehicle.

as for shifting problem, hope they fix it.  if not, take it to a different dealership and maybe contact jeep.

The "poping out' issue is one that I've heard of before. I haven't noticed it myself, but I usually drive with my hand on the stick when I'm in traffic anyways.

I've also checked on te Jeep site to see if there are recalls that affect me (regarding brake lines), and they do not come up. Then again, I've replaced my brake lines anyways  :o

Could be a hidden recall such as a t.s.b or technical service bulletin . Jeep deals with it only when the customer complains about certain issues that are listed under symptoms on the t.s.b. .

The brake lines were not a hidden recall, but it did not apply to all JK's - or so it seems.

The issue is the inner plastic liners for the fenders rubbing against the brake lines and potentially wearing through.

I bought my 09 at Tower and will never go back.

You may want to try Varsity Chrysler in the NE, they are pretty good, I have taken mine in there for everything, including something as small as the zipper on the soft top separating from the window and they did it on warranty.

I bought my '06 used at Tower >:(.  I get it serviced at Big 4 now ;D.  Very happy with Big 4 :).  For example, at my last service at Big 4 - diff. service and oil change (I still have powertrain warranty) the service dude comes out and says "Your axle seals are leaking.  We should make an appointment to bring it back.  It's under warrenty." :o  They replaced the seals right away ;D.  I was shocked - a dealership actually coming forward and volunteering that something is under warranty???

Big 4 for the win.

X2 for Big 4!

TSB's are generally checked if there is a complaint. the brake line rubbing the inner fender TSB has never come up for any of the JK's ive looked at. ive never seen that TSB before.
the shifter issue has come up a few times. the TSB was to move/adjust or notch the inner shift boot for the shifter. we have had a few poeple come back with the shifter issue even after performing the TSB, but we can never duplicate the problem. and those were all long after the TSB was performed. however, we have had only 1 case where there was an internal problem in the transmission, and it had a bad syncro/blocker ring. changed it out and all was fine. im surprised we dont see more issues with the nsg370 as its not a very beefy manual trans. but i works pretty well for what it is, and im almost positive it came from mercedes when they were wit hchrysler.

There's incentive for dealers to find work they can do under warranty as they bill their labor and parts to the manufacturer instead of you.

You're happy and they get additional revenue. :)

When I used to buy new vehicles, I'd take them in just before the warranty would expire and let the dealership replace whatever they could get approved under warranty. Win for them for the cash, win for me to have something replaced before it'd come out of my pocket.

Good to hear feedback on what dealerships are treating people right...

It always seems for us it takes a few trys before any dealership repair is complete for our 08 JK.
All of our sway bar wiring decided to melt (making the Jeep not start) so they replaced a bit of wiring and magically working.  About 4 weeks later same thing and now they have had to replace all sway bar components, but seems to be good now...but it has only been a few weeks.
We have had some great luck at Courtesy though as long as you get the right service advisor (makes a HUGE difference).

X3 on never going back to Tower.  Their service dept has some issues, from my experience.  Going to try Varsity next as it is close to work.
