Garmin Nuvi 550 GPS and "The Dead Zone"
« on: September 03, 2010, 08:00:20 PM »
Anybody else have problems with their GPS in the Glenmore & Crowchild area?  EVERY time I drive across Glenmore, the screen on the Nuvi freezes within 1/2  km of Crowchild.  I kill power to the unit and restart it, no problems afterwards until I cross that area again.

I was in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago and put about 1,400km on the rental car and the GPS performed flawlessly.

It works perfect everywhere except the above intersection.  Anybody else experience this phenonemon?

Tha Nuvi has all the latest software upgrades from Garmin and it froze up twice today, each time crossing Crowchild & Glenmore.

I have a 550.  I live near Glenmore and Crowchild.  I have never experienced anything like what you described.  Not here, not anywhere.

I've got a 1390T and a 60CSX. Neither of them experience any problems in that area.

I did have some problems with the 1390T shutting itself off and not powering back up properly until hours later, but that was solved by making the appropriate firmware updates.

I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Mine doesn't freak out like that either.

Maybe yours doesn't like driving over water?  :P

If that's the issue, maybe a life jacket would help it feel more secure. Or maybe mount it to a boat?

Do you possibly have some POI warnings loaded for that area?

I wonder if it is because of the Backroads Alberta software I loaded into it?
Like I said, it works flawlessly everywhere else, just that intersection area gives me a problem.
