Tires, Fenders and Rules/Bylaws regarding size

  I bought some 32" tires from Dingman (thanks Dingman!) and put them on my TJ. They stick out a bit past the fender flairs and I am wondering what the rules/bylaws are regarding this?!? I'd be willing to bet someone out there on this forum has gotten a ticket for this and would know the rules......

If you don't have full fender coverage and mudflaps (or equivalent) that come down to the midpoint of the axle, a cop can write you a ticket and make it stick if you give them reason to do it.

i think running 32's wont make you noticeable to the cops

im on 35's and they stick 3 inchs pass the flares and i havent been pulled over yet

but you never know what cop and what kind of day they had so do what you can to cover them i guess

I have been warned twice about flares and thrice about mudflaps. Red deer rcmps are terrible for it. Calgary cops aren't as bad. But it really depends on the cop that pulls you ever.

To put it simple in ab no tire is allowed past your fender flare and 1/2 you tire needs coverage from a mudflap (looking from the back).

Question: when people were warned/ticketed was it because the tires/trucks were excessively dirty as well (IE probably throwing or looks like it could be throwing shiz) or nice and clean and they just had some hate on that day?

again...it's going to depend on the day that the cop was having. Most of the time they won't bother you if you're not doing something you shouldn't. If you give them a reason to pay attention to you, then that is going to happen.

PS...if you're dropping mud/dirt/etc all over the street, you can be ticketed for that too. Any vehicle can be, although it's more aimed at commercial vehicles in construction areas. Remember how you feel when that semi drops a bunch of gravel while you're travelling down deerfoot next to him? Maybe a rock has bounced off your windshield before?

Mudguards

64(1)  A motor vehicle or trailer must have a part of its body, a fender or a mudguard that covers the width of each tire.

(2)  The body part, fender or mudguard referred to in subsection (1) must be above each wheel and

                                 (a)    extend downwards at the rear of each axle or axle group to at least the centre line of the axle, or

                                 (b)    be a distance away from the ground equivalent to at least 1/3 of the horizontal distance from the bottom edge of the mudguard to the centre line of the axle, but not closer to the ground than 150 millimetres when the vehicle is loaded.

(3)  In addition to the requirements of subsection (1), the following types of vehicle must be equipped with rear wheel splash and stone?throw protection that complies with SAE Standard J682:

                                 (a)    a commercial vehicle or combination of commercial vehicles that is registered for a gross weight of more than, or that weighs more than, 4500 kilograms and that is not a bus;

                                 (b)    a bus;

                                 (c)    a trailer.

(4)  A passenger car is not required to have a mudguard.

(5)  This section does not apply to a trailer designed and constructed for drive?on and drive?off low loads.
