sticky 2nd gear

Hi .. I'm new to the Jeep family.  Bought my first Wrangler on the weekend.. it's a 2007 3.8L  6 speed. 
I've driven it now for 3 days and shifting into 2nd has been tricky... it grinds easily. Tried a few different things, revving, not revving..  i have an appointment for tomorrow but hoping someone can give me some insight!

I have a different model Jeep (and a different model transmission) than you, but I had similar issues when I first purchased my Jeep.

I had a few things recommended to me, including:
 - since the Jeep is new to you, you should change the transmission fluid (really, you should change all fluids)
 - try a different transmission fluid, I switched to Royal Purple Syncromax (note:  don't just use it, confirm it's good for your transmission)
 - try double clutching, or rev matching better to avoid grinding

After doing the first two points on the list, I found the transmission was much smoother...at least until the temperatures dropped.  I still find she can be finicky if it's below -5, at least until the fluid has warmed up.  I still double clutch (always have, my car has similar issues with second gear), and find that that's good enough when it's super cold.

I also read somewhere on CJA that "the transmissions in these vehicles are truck transmissions," so they don't like to be shifted fast like sports cars.  I had never owned / or driven a truck prior to the Jeep, so it took a while to get used to.  So I've found just by taking it easy and not trying to force it into gear, it's a lot smoother.

(I'd also like to apologize to everyone who gets stuck behind me at a red light, between "taking it easy / driving smoothly" and the lower gearing on the Rubicons, it takes me a little longer than I'd like to accelerate up to speed)

i believe you both have the same transmission, the nsg370 6 speed manual. there is a tsb for the older jk's for the lower shift boot blocking the shifter from fully engaging. so that may be your issue, or it may not be. depends on mileage and driving style. and i cannot recal if that tsb applied to the 2007 or 2008 wranglers. ive only seen one transmission that had an actual blocker ring problem.

I also have an '07 JK with the six speed. I have had the same problem with mine. When it's warm outside or the Jeep has been running for a while it isn't bad. When really cold, it's quite bad (even had it pop out of gear a couple times). From what I've read on other forums it seems to be a common issue. I now tend to really finesse it into gear when it's cold outside...the Jeep isn't a race car so I've learnt to just take my time and enjoy the ride

If you do take it into a shop and it's an easy/cheap fix please post up...thanks!
