Best JK winch bumper for the $$
« on: February 25, 2011, 09:51:23 AM »
It's time to mod...and the first things on the list are front and rear bumpers.
It's a 2010 JK unlimited

It seems like all of the JK bumpers I can find are really pricey...or awkward looking.

I have always liked the value in "Nates 4x4" bumpers on my other Jeeps and I like his premium JK rear bumper but I am not sure about his front JK bumper...

This is the Nates 4x4 rear premium JK bumper...around $800 US with the swingout...not so cheap.
http://nates4x4.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=72

Does anyone have any gems of wisdom on the subject? From the pictures I have seen while researching available bumpers, it seems like some affect clearance a lot more than others. Can anyone reccomend any JK bumpers that are at least somewhat reasonably priced? What have you bought bumper-wise for your JK and are you happy with it? I'm leaning towards the ones that recess the winch lower but I have also heard that some JK bumpers require you to modify ther front frame crossmember...??

Thanks.

I just noticed the Nates rear JK swingout covers the plate in that pic...I guess that means no more multanovas...
just kidding obviously it would have to be relocated.

Like anything else its opinion.

This one is strong, built in winch mount, takes stock fog lights,  good look to it, reasonably priced (Call Stan at Northridge)

There are a zillion out there to choose from, some are overpriced in my opinion but if you are in love with a particular one then the price is less expensive.

Although on second thought maybe the poison spyder sucks............... after all I want to be unique  :P

I'm with Jay on this!

After two years of beating on the bumper he built for me (that's my rig in the pic), the only thing that I've had to do is re-paint the skid plate. That's 100 km a day of being sandblasted by winter grit on the deerfoot, and some pretty solid trail use ('cuz I offroad with all the finesse of a D8 dozer). I'll also say that I am VERY happy with the price that Jay gave me on that, and I'm 100% confident that if there were ever any issues with his work, Jay would stand behind it to the bitter end.

The Poison Spyder bumper is great too. If I didn't know folks that were able to make exactly what I asked them to make for me, I probably would have bought that or something a lot like it.

Here's another pic of it on my rig.

A lot of people seem to really like the LOD ones, and if you want an aluminum block one, the Aberle Offroad bumper is pretty sweet. Off-topic, the bronze colour of the nates bumper in the link is nasty!

bronze...yeah I don't know what's up with that...shudder.

Thanks for the input now here's a question...is it just me or does the Poison spider Bumper hang down a lot less than the one you have wsquared? it appears to have a skidplate of sorts built in... if so is the protection worth the loss of clearance?

And Jay...how much for something like wsquared's bumper?

Wsquared...that thing has elevated since I last saw it...nice.

Yes, I have a skidplate on mine. It's there (at my request) to protect the swaybar disconnect motor. It's actually fabbed so that it can be unbolted from the bumper if/when I switch to something like the ORO Swaylok.
