Sooooo how about those Brake Lines??
« on: April 15, 2011, 08:07:54 AM »
Now I will admit I didn't search this.  It is just something that I think of whenever I walk up to the front of my Jeep especially since I have installed my Poison Spyder stubby bumper (cuz I can see it better).

My brake lines just seem to hang there waiting for some type of Trail Monster to reach up and grab them and render me the perpetual motion machine.

Now I know nothing is perfect and regardless of what is done there is always the risk of something happening.

But.....

What are the options to make this somewhat important part of the Rubi a little (a whole lot??) stronger and/or more protected?

orange duct tape, hopefully it semi matches the mango tango :P

seriously though, how were they mounted in the JK? for the TJ I can take off the bumper and they are still clipped to the frame. So I wasn't going to worry about it when I put a new bumper on.

Its not that they were mounted to the bumper its that I can see them now that the bumper is not obscuring the view.

They hang from the frame to the caliper and obviously need enough length to cover the full articulation of the suspension.

Just seems to me that they are somewhat exposed there and maybe a better way, stronger lines, ???

You got good braided line when you bought the LT kit from Northridge, didn't you Shawn?

If so, just keep wheelin' it until it spits out a part number...and use Vise Grips to limp your "brakes on three wheels" MangoRubi home that day.  ;)

Just carry a spare brake line.

Here's an idea Shawn...since we're going to be running essentially the same front ends, why don't I carry a spare brake line, and you can carry a spare set of shafts.  ;D

If I am not mistaken isn't their a valve in the brake system that if you lose a line it blocks that corner off not allowing you to lose all your oil.

Still carry extra lines and fluid.
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?
