So just before I parked my 87 Xj last year, it ran like complete crap. Would fire up and run for about 30 seconds on it`s own, after that it needed my foot on the throttle to stay running.
This happened right after I replaced the AC compressor with an idler pulley from a base model XJ. I changed all the sensors I could think of with spares ( TPS, IAC, Oxygen, MAP ) After fiddling around today I noticed the small vacuum line going onto the EGR valve on the side of the intake, was cracked and obviously leaking.
I removed the line from the valve and started it up. Voila! it runs perfectly fine on it`s own now, goes into gear without stalling etc... When you put the line back on, it goes back to running like crap. I`m going to replace the cracked line later tonite and see if that helps it. If not, would that mean the EGR valve is toast, or just plugged. Can I harm the engine running with the EGR unhooked...
Thanks for any help!
