I'm sure I'm not the only one who's done that... Anyways figured I should check in to get a second opinion (the first one was mine)

So when I'm driving the jeep I hear that noise. It seems proportionate to the speed I'm going and the noise only happens when the clutch pedal is not pushed in. This make me think it's something from transmission to the differentials. I should note that there is no difficulty shifting.

My rear drive shaft angle was a little steep since I didn't put the tcase plate drop in right away due to a broken nutsert so my rear pinion seal had a very small leak just enough to get the pumkin wet but not enough to cause a puddle or even marks on the ground.

I picked up a new seal last night to fix that issue and will do a full clean of thedifs possibly on theweekend. I also have new u joints incase that's not the noise and I was going to change my transmission fluid on the weekend.

Anyone have any other ideas incase this doesn't resolve the issue?

rear ujoints you should be able to feel them if they are bad. there should be a vibe.  any vibes?

the sound you're talking about almost sounds like a wheel bearing

A wheel bearing is what I've read on jeepforum but that doesn't make sense that it would go away if I push the clutch in... I've tried it going up and down hill and on level ground going fast and slow the noise goes away when the clutch is depressed :/

You said this only happens when the clutch is out?  But when depressed it goes away?  I would think not drive line if you were coasting your wheel bearings etc would still be in motion I would think clutch or pressure plate or shift fork etc

I should clarify when the jeep is in gear and driving the noise is present when I depress the clutch pedal (engaging the throw out bearing) the noise goes away. In the past when the throw out bearing has gone bad it makes that squealing noise when you push in the pedal to shift.

That's not what's happening right now.

The other clarification is that when the jeep is cold the noise isn't present only once the jeep warms up do you start to hear it. It reminds me of gears clicking. I've got the afternoon off work so I'm going to start with the rear diff fix the seal and replace the fluid and move on from there.

Had a similar issue, ended up being rear DS ujoint. it took almost an entire year of driving with the clacking noise before any vibe occurred, the shaft always felt tight and it wasn't until i dropped my keys and kicked them under the Jeep before I saw the issue.

I also believe that a worn Ujoint can speed up the wear on your pinion seals as well.

Put the transfer case in neutral, tranny in gear, Jeep not moving.  When does it make noise?  Clutch pedal in or out?  What about when reving it?

try to only put alittle presure on your clutch .. dont push it all the way down     if it goes away when you are still driving and in gear and just a bit of weight on the clutch pedal then its your throw out bearing

if so ill change it for 400 bucks plus parts

I am assuming you don't have a SYE since you mentioned t-case drop - Sounds similar to a problem I had before I had a SYE - changed the bearing and seal  in the extension housing on the t-case and that solved it - was just enough wear for the slip yoke to bounce up and down eventually causing a vibration and noise - maybe worth checking, not sure cause my vibration was more noticable than the noise but same deal with the clutch

Yep the release bearing folks have it. I replaced the unoints on the rear axle ( they were still quite lubricated) and replaced the rear pinion seal.

So It's definetly Something wrong with the release bearing almost sounds dry or something. I'll get around to looking at that sometime.
