Couple weeks ago I changed my front pinion seal cause it was weeping (tj rubicon d44). When I picked up the seal it looked right but I pulled the old one, I noticed an outer seal before you got to the pinion seal. Ive changed a few and never seen this before... Same thing on the rear too. All the searching in the world still always leads me to the standard one piece seal. It almost looks like an outer axle seal as well as a pinion seal. Obviously I didnt do a good job or my yokes fuxored cause shes leakin again. Any thoughts on that two piece seal? Or is it just an outer axle seal plus pinion seal?

i swapped mine on a rear d44, was pretty straight forward, not really sure what the difference is with the front, maybe post some pictures?

when i replaced mine it they were both one peice seals
so maybe you got the wrong ones

Nah I found it, its number 4 in the linked image.

I got this "V" seal front and back... just never seen this extra seal on top of the oil seal before. Tried just the oil seal and still leaking with a new yoke... bearings are fine, tolerances are good so ill try and get my hands on this seal and try it as well.

Ya i thought it was strajge to when I pulled it out. Napa, Autovalue etc dont even list it as a part.  Im guessin most just bother putting it back in. Did you get yours used? Maybe it was replaced before and never put the v seal in. Might not be my problem... doubt it is actually but a second seal definately cant hurt.

Mine was bought used, but it wasn't used hard by anymeans so I doubt the pinion seal would have been replaced, but you never know.

This was the normal seal everyone knows


this is the V seal... that I don't have on my 44.

The V seal slips into the back of the oil seal first pictured. Ever noticed it leaves a gap around the yoke? Thats where the V seal goes... fills in the gap. Ive decided its probably not that important... dealer doesnt show it but Spicer does... I ordered 2 of them and put a genuine Spicer seal in tonight without them... hopefully this one works. It does seem like a good idea though.. like wrappin it twice juuuust to be sure.
