Lock Right Lockers

I have a 2003 TJ. Dana 30 front, open diff.
Anyone ever install and run a >Lock Right Locker?
How does it work for you? Good-Bad-Ugly?
Worth the money? Seems like an easy install.

I have a TJ and put an Aussie in the front, same basic thing. Its not that hard to install, pretty easy actually. IMO a lunchbox upfront is one of the best upgrades for the money. Around town in 2wd not even noticeable 4wd on pavement or grippy surfaces is an absolute no, on slick roads 4wd is fine, but tends to plow on sharp turns. If a selectable front locker just isn't and option, saving over one thousand dollars and going lunchbox is not bad at all.

Works like a spool offroad, the most dependable locker I have ever used or seen (tied with Detriot). Biggest down side is tight maneuvers on the trail take more time, the jeep just likes to plow especially if its slick out. But is fine on dirt and rocks and other higher grip surfaces.

Bit of a tip, putting synthetic in your diff makes the locker slip easier, nicer around town still highly effective offroad. I do it in the vague hope I might not snap a U joint.

That about sums it up. Bad choice if you daily drive it in the winter and want to drive on snowy streets or do a lot of winter wheeling. For winter wheeling a non-selectable will give trouble trying to negotiate a slippery side hill(can be downright scary with a locked in front end) or even just trying to follow a bend in the trail. With a locked in front you'll just keep plowing straight ahead, and off the trail.

It works great for romping through the mud and up and down straight cutlines.

In my opinion I think its better to either save money for a selectable or spend the money on a winch or other upgrade for their rig.

I have had little problem in winter on snowy streets even 90 kph, the biggest winter driving concern is making a sharp turn from a dead stop. Worst case scenario is driving up a hill that curves, the jeep just handles very different.It does plow on trail but its not that bad. anybody who has wheeled with me can attest its not a big deal. Most people are probably completely unaware my front end is locked. Its certainly not perfect though. I do recall one time on a off camber winter trail i kept sliding near the edge of a steep long slope on a big hill. Not fun.

There is a reason that most of the people in this club choose not to put an "auto" locker up front. Yes, you end up with a front axle that is well set up for some situations...but you also end up with some pretty good disadvantages in other situations. Save your money, do it once, do it right.

Flatlander you should come out wheelin and I'll be more than happy to demonstrate its behavior, there will probably be some snow out at Mclean soon so you can see for yourself. The demo should help you make a decision if its ok or not.

Thanks for the tip Jrama, put it in a few weeks ago after your suggestion on that open run and it ratchets way smoother now.
I have aussies front and rear, Disconnect in the front so i cant comment on that but With this last ice friday it was definitely very sketchy with the rear locker.
Hopefully a few hundred pounds of sand bags in the back, if not im gonna look at some studded duratracs
