I had heard of the Jeep Club, Calgary Jeep Association before I bought a 1954 Willys wagon in 2004. But I didn't get involved with the club/ forum. Until I bought a Mini Van, A.K.A. JKU in 2008. I didn't even get on board then. Now I want to get involved and hopefully one day, if I put the work in. I will become a member. I have been reading some stuff on here lately I would like to chime in on. First I read "Welcome to 2012" by SpecialK. Good stuff I like where you, CJA are going. I have read a lot of other good stuff too. Then I read about people dis n my mini van, not wanting to go on trail rides with newbies and some stuff about the CJA as well.
The mini van stuff hurt my feelings. Then I keep reading and its all in good fun ribbing and that sort of stuff. Cool I can take it. I even smiled a little.
The not wanting to go riding with new guys I totally get. Its not being prepared and that same A hole getting stuck ever time, stuff like that. The stuff about CJA, well I'm not a member. So I should probably leave that alone.
If I hadn't been on CJA before and gone to some meetings or didn't look around more . And I was a JK newbie, I might feel un welcome on CJA and look to another forum. Where members all drive the same vehicle and there are more newbies willing to get together and try out there new toys. What I'm trying to say is, we should be careful that we aren't turning people away from the hobby / sport. Before they even get started. I think the CJA / forum, are here to spread the word , get people involved (the 101), share information, lend a hand and make friends will doing it. The new guys need to learn whats right and whats wrong. I know we don't get out a lot and the last thing you want to do on your day off is drag some one along. But I don't want to turn people away.
I'm looking forward to this months meeting. Maybe a bunch of us mini van drivers will show up
Keep up the good work!
