BFG All Terrain or Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour

I am in need of a new set of rubber for the daily driver, 2011 F150, and I do a ton of highway and some in town. I have a dedicated set of winters. My biggest concern is ride quality and I like the look of both tires on the truck. The BFG comes in a C load and E load and the GY comes in P, C and E. I am leaning towards the GY in the P rated for the softer sidewall should = softer ride. I am thinking even in the load range C the BFG will ride stiffer with the 3 ply sidewalks. Does anyone else have experience with these tires and / or this truck?

i own a set of the bfg at and they are a pretty good tire... but i worked for goodyear for about 8 years. i know the silent armor tires very well. my dad has a 2000 f150 and we put the silent armors on it. doesnt use winter tires at all and he lives on a farm in manitoba. if you use your truck for daily driving on hwy, city, gravel and occasional off road then go silent armor. if you occasionally tow something go with load range C. if you tow a lot go with the E. i like the bfg but i find it has more road noise and vibes, and they were prone to more abnormal wear with ifs trucks. if you use the truck a lot off road then go with the bfg in a C load range.
what size are you going to use? you may be able to put a spacer up front and go up one size range as well?

I'm a huge fan of the BFGs, I've owned at least 6-7 sets in various sizes. However, the set of 20s I had on my Tundra could never seem to balance perfectly. I ran them for 70K and then switched to the Silent Armours. This is the first set of SAs for me and can tell you they are hands down better than the BFGs in every way for on road performance. Excellent year round traction in all conditions, noticeably quieter and much smoother ride, mind you the BFGs were load range D and these are P rated.

My only initial concern with the SAs was when I tow my camper (8,500lbs) I was worried about sidewall flex. It has not been a issue at all and I didn't really expect it to be given the relatively short sidewall of the 20s.

The only negative I have is the change in fuel consumption. When I first pit the BFGs on, I had about a 15% loss in fuel mileage (they were 15 lbs each heavier than stock and one size bigger). Then, when I put on the SAs, although they were 1/2" taller and 1/2" wider than the BFGs, they were also 10 lbs lighter, I took yet another hit on fuel mileage.

At the end of the day, I think they are both a decent tire, when I sold the BFGs they still had about 50% tread left and the SA's currently have about 32K with no noticeable signs of wear.

Now for the Jeep, no question about it, BFG KOs for sure.

My ford came factory with load range E but no payload package and calls for 60 psi rear and 55 front. Needless to say my TPMS light is on lol.

I think I will go Silent Armours and enjoy the ride quality as this truck will never see more than a dirt road at worst.

Just a suggestion, give Kal Tire a call (The one on macloud and 99st SE, talk to the manager Jay and tell him Justin sent you).

I was looking at the same set of tires and he suggested to me to go with "Wild Country XTX Sports". He told me that they are the number 1 selling tire for alberta oil field trucks. And because they arent a huge brand name they are 300-400 cheaper than BFG's.

I have run the BFG All Terrains before, I liked them and told him I'd rather go with something I knew. He said to try the wild country's and if I didnt like them to bring them back and he would order me a set of BFGs.

How could I say no?

First, I went D rated from my E rated tires. The comfort is an insane difference. It rides like a brand new truck. These tires also have a 10 rating on ice, but are an all season tire. I have to hammer on it to get these to spin on ice. And reading the reviews online they wear great and unlike the BFG's dont loose a ton of traction as they wear.

Oh and 80,000kms life span on em. Guaranteed.

I have 3000kms on them so far. Best tire I have ever run hands down. Thinking about grabbing a set for my wife's WJ.

I used to work for kal and I am familiar with this tire. I agree it would be a good fit but they don't come in a p rated or 6 ply like the BFG and GY. I am running a 265/70/17 and can't go any bigger as I already just touch the sweep on the bottom of the parkade door lol

The only reason i ever ran bfg AT's was for winter performance. My 3/4 ton Dodge came with a set of 35's. Loved them...
until i bought some 35" Nitto trailgrappler MT's. Night and day better than the bfg and i really loved bfg's.
loud? probably, stereo on fixes that.
balance? easy and very little weights

 Goodyear is recalling certain Wrangler Silent Armor tires, sizes lT235/80R17 lRE, lT325/60R18 lRE, lT275/70r18 lRE, lT265/70r17 lRE, lT245/75r17 IRE, and lT285/70R17 lRD, produced from the 9th week of 2009, through the 22nd week of 2009 (March 31st through May 31st).

Looks like I'm still good with the 20s, for now...

BFG A/T's.  No contest.  I've had the BFG A/T's on 3 different vehicles, now on my 3/4 ton Ford, in 4 high I was able to crawl out of thick mud on a dump run, I thought I was going to get high centered and got out without any excessive wheel spinning.

Now the Silent Armour's, I've got stuck in about 2" of snow and couldn't get any traction, tires had at least 70% tread.
