Rims for a 2002 jeep TJ sport

Hi everyone,

I need some new tires for my TJ, and I was thinking of changing from my stock 15" 5x4.5" rims to a set of 16" rims.

Will  a set of 235/70R16 with a Bolt Pattern: 5 x 4.5 fit my jeep?

Basically If I put 16" rims on my jeep tj what tires will I be able to use with no lifting modifications. I am hoping that I can got to 16" rims because there seems to be a wider range of tires I can get. What do you guys recommend? I was trying to do research but I figured the forum would give better results.

When i first got my 2002 tj it had 31s on with no lift or anything it looked chubby ur 16 will fit with no problems

a 31" tire should work unless your sagging
here's the calculation:
235/70/R16 =
width in mm/aspect ratio (% of width)/ R (radial) 16 (size of rim in inches)

235 multiply by 0.7 (aspect ratio) divide by 25.4 (mm in an inch) multiply by 2 (diameter has tire above and below the rim) add 16 (inches of rim
235 x 0.7 / 25.4 x 2 +16 = 28.9527559 " (29")
Well within spec.  Personally I would go with a 265/70/16 tire (30.6") or stick with a plain 31/10.50/15 (cheaper)

Another thing to consider is load range.  16's will most likely put you into a D or E range depending on what tire and size you want.
