Studs or no studs???
« on: November 23, 2012, 10:54:35 AM »
I have good year duratracs that have the holes predrilled for studs.  I am looking for opinions or experience with studding tires.  The tires have about 30k on them with lots of tread.  Can I stud them? Should I stud them?

I anticipate a few winter runs this year. I have been out a couple times and yes the tires work great in the snow. I'm more concerned with the ice on hills and being able to climb them.

the only drawback for studding tires is    ........i  heard if they are not brand new there could be a small stone in the hole,  when the stud gets punched in, during install  it can force the stone through the tire .  studs help on ice only and are great for a short time on road ,  off road????????????  i wouldnt think they would be durable

Studded Duratracs work just great off-road in the winter.

You may find that many places will be hesitant to stud a tire that has already been run on the road. YMMV.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Go talk to the owner of tires in motion he can set you up on studding used tires. Or e-mortal custom can stud ANY tire.

Most places wont stud used tires unless you clean each and every hole by hand with a small drill bit.
