9" in a cherokee?
« on: May 27, 2006, 01:53:18 PM »
I am thinking of putting a 9" into my 90 Cherokee Sport 2 door. Has anyone done this? Anyone know the width difference between the 9" and the stock 35C that is in it now? I am thinking a 9" in the rear and keeping the 30 up front w/ 4:10's and lockers to prevent this from happening again.

As fun as that was. There will also be an 8" lift in the works hopefully. After seeing a friends 8" in his cherokee I have to have one.

Any ifo would be helpful.

Thanks

What happened, looks like you might have flopped it on it's side, but an axle won't fix that?

There was a ditch there that I failed to see late at night. I know an axle won't fix that but if I had a locker front or rear I would not have had to get pulled out of that. I never went on my side but it was close. Good times!

I think you'll find that 9'' axles come in a variety of widths, they came in many ford products of different sizes.
I can't help you more than that. Ask in the technical forum, I am sure someone will know the width of a cherokee axle and which vehicle to find a donor.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

I roughly measured my D35 at 61"... roughly as in left the tires on.  I snagged a 9" out of a 79 Bronco thanks to JamesFromCanada that measured in at 65. Not sure how accurate this all is, but this pic (although bad quality) should give you an idea

And i think the F250/350's 9" are something like 71" or bigger.

EDIT: checked on some specs on a cherokee for you, got track width = 67.9" - 70.5"
track = 57" with 15x7's and 58" with 15x8's.  Hope this helps.
