Hola from Tapachula, Mexico
« on: January 06, 2014, 06:45:04 AM »
Hey guys n girls, thought I'd pass along a wee update for anyone that was interested in What me n the misses were up to down here.

We landed in Guatemala City on October 31st and went straight to Antigua. Using Antigua as a sort of homebase, we've been riding around exploring this amazing and beautiful country by motorcycles. We bought 2 new Honda CGL125s from Honda here after hearing how cheap they are, plus they come with license plates. Never having ridden one it was quite the experience! Now with 1,100 km on them, and learning in this place, I think Alberta will owe me a bike license when I get home ;).

Were in Tapachula, Mexico right now, our first stop on a planned, and failed trip upto Puerta Villarta. The Mexican border fails to mention the $900.00 import fees and taxes required to drive there. We found out about 150km into Mexico at a provincial border, we just turned around now using Mexico as our 3 day border hop before returning to Guatemala.

We will probably spend another month or so in Guatemala before heading to El Salvador and beyond.

Hope your all doing well and I hope and pray everyday that amazing land we all love to play in stays put for a bloody long time!

Good to know that you and the GF got there safely and are enjoying the country. You no doubt won't be missing the weather here right now.

No can't say I am missing it ;) Nothing but shorts and flip flops here. We rented a little house in San Pedro La Laguna, life is cheap here. Costs about $200 a month with utilities, great place to get lost in and do nothing for awhile.
