Tire mount and balance?

Do any "good guy" shops in this city still do a loose mount and balance for a case of beer?  Or cheap at least?  Best ive seen is $30 a corner, which frankly, is a lot for less than hours total worth of work.

Aaah, are you guys able to set up my stauns though? That would be a huge help.

$30 per tire/rim is probably industry standard. Call any tire place and they should be around that.

Or put it this way, is $20 enough for you to do an hour's worth of work that can involve lifting heavy weigh repetitively?

Mega tire in the ne did a change over and balance for me about a month ago on my wife's Lexus for $73 including tax if I remember right and that's about the cheapest you'll find from what I've found on my vehicles

Dave and I have done stauns before... I'm not a fan of them. But we know how to do them...

Yep.  Thats what I did all through highschool.  Mounted and balanced tires in a shop for $8 bucks an hour.  2002-2004.  Took me around 30 - 40 min a set loose.

Me too. Put myself thru my AST program at SAIT busting tires at night and on weekends at the Northhill Sears for $8.50/hr.  On a small car I could do a set in 30min. They charged $15/tire at the time.

So $30/tire=$120 for a set. Now I can see a dealership charging $120/hr for a tech to work on a vehicle and the tech is getting $30-$40/hr and lots of overhead on shop equipment, but how does a tire shop justify it? The tire tech is getting maybe $15-$20? and they don't have the same overhead.  ???

The cheapest I have seen lately is $20 a tire at Togo tire.  It is cheaper for a few friends to get together on buying a used tire machine.

I have a tire machine but you still have to pay for balancing and tire balancers are expensive. I bought new tires from Kal tire last week, I told them I could mount the tires myself and just needed them balanced. They said mounting was included in the purchase of the tire but balancing was $30/tire.   :P

It will be interesting to see next spring when I bring my trailer tires in for replacement and I want the free mounting but don't need them balanced.  :D
