Coolant system refresh
« on: May 19, 2014, 11:33:34 AM »
Hi was wondering if anyone could recommend and give me an idea of cost?

I can smell coolant each time i drive now and the XJ is running hotter than usual.

I would like a mechanic to have a look over it but i think it needs at the very least, water pump, fan clutch and the electric fan switch replaced or new electric fan as it won't turn on.

Any recommendations? and how much should i get together. I'm just back to work after college, so although i know you get what you pay for, i really am on a budget at the mo.

Thanks.

Mike.

Contact Broken Axle, they do a lot of Jeep work.
They are a forum member with the same user name.

That's a big third sentence there...with alot of expensive assumptions, it could be as simple as a fuse and / or just too much coolant to water ratio - I agree though, see Dave at B-Axle if diagnosing yourself is beyond your comfort level, which I suspect is the case - maybe Dave or someone else could show you some very basic stuff like checking your specific gravity and inspecting a weeping hole at a club ride or something - g'luck
