Thanks to the boys at broken axle for getting all the parts in a timely fashion, and to the auto body paint shop I used for the color matched rattle can and clear coat
This was my first time painting something of this size. I went slow, carried the paint right through on each sweep. One can was enough for three coats. Wish I had time to better prep the factory primer that came on the frame, but I did not. There were a few drips in the primer, but this is covered by the dash so not a big deal.
Old frame, the glass was cracked so bad that you could actually depress it in 3/8". Driving up Stoney trail at 100km, the glass was cracking just from the wind.
After lowering the windshield I was very happy to see no cancer along the cowl under the cowl gasket.
A view of the wiper arm linkage. There is a ball joint connecting the motor linkage to the arm linkage. I was able to carefully slide out the motor and linkage, then the wiper arms and linkage without disconnecting everything. If you decide to tackle this, careful prying, these components bend very easily.
Break time
New cowl gasket installed. This picture shows the hard rubber end. This had to be cut down a bit. It was a crown automotive gasket. The material was very thick and no matter how hard we tried, we could not get the frame any closer then 8" to the roll bar connections. If you tackle this project, make sure all the hinge bolts are loose when folding it back up.
The finished product. All in all it was not to bad to do. I am glad I kept my tap and die set near chasing the in frame brackets and old bolts made for a much easier install. All in all it was a $600 project, but I am glad I got it done. The windshield and frame is an important part for safety. Make sure to check your door alignment after. I did have to realign the passenger door and will probably have to add some gasket on the front of the door.
