It might be the release bearing,can't say for sure. But I will say if you are going in there to change it, The best plan would be to do everything the clutch, rear seal, front tranny seal, because it's a lot of work to get in there, and you don't want to do it again in 3 months. This is the voice of experience, learned this the hard way. Several times now

As for "can you do it yourself'' . Only you know your mechanical abilities. It is a big job, but not overly difficult. I can't think of any special tools you would need to do it. Maybe a transmission jack, that definatly helps.The last clutch I bought came with the little alignment dohickey so you shouldn't need that. Maybe some one else will mention something I've forgotten.
