installing Genright highline fenders on YJ

i bought Erics off him; going to paint them up and install on beltloops.

just a few questions to those who have installed them;  can you reuse the inner fender? the instructions show some pics with the inner retained, and others with the whole fender replaced.  they also quote 10-12 hours for install? 

any tips and pointers?  i'd like to retain the stock fenders so i can sell them. they are in good shape and rust free.

Re-using the inner fenders would be painful, if not, nearly impossible.

Not sure if Robin was able to cancel his order or not. But BA had some coming for him, and I already had them for him at my place. Worth looking into. His are aluminum, but same structural design. They would work.

Or make something out of tin and strategic use of rubber matting.

Yeah, the install is a lot of hours. First time around I wouldnt be surpprised if it took you even longer than the suggested, depending on how thorough you get. Took me about 4 hours to get where Robins are and I didnt do inners, or re-install hood latches or hood pins.

That was with two of us and I was pretty quick with the cuts since I've done quite a few hoods.

 i figured it would definitely be a weekend type of job. and yea, cutting the hood would be the thing i get concerned on. however, i do have two hoods so if i mess it up i have a spare haha.

i don't have any intention of using the factory fender inners. i jsut saw the instructions and the first thing i thought was 'man, that looks like a bitch' to make it work.

and i'm guessing hood pins are the best bet instead of reusing latches?

I used pins on blue back when I did that cut. I never did them on the YJ. Just didnt get around to it. But yeah, they do the trick.

It isnt that bad relocation the straps if you want to go that route.

If you are nervous with the cut, use masking tape as a guide. It will help.

Ask Phil or Joey where Joey got the rubber edging he uses on the cut edge. It looks way cleaner than leaving it bare.

Yeah Robins are still coming. Should be here next week.  I'm sure he'd be happy to sell them to you.

I would indeed to be happy to sell them.  I have no use for 2 sets of inner fenders.
